How engine tuning works on a petrol Hyundai Matrix

Petrol engines are remapped by refining fuelling, ignition timing and, on turbocharged engines, boost control. Done carefully this releases performance the manufacturer left in reserve, giving sharper throttle response and a stronger top end.

Hyundai Matrix 1.8 122 against other Matrix engines

Ranked by power gain against the other petrol Matrix engines (2 in total), the 1.8 122 is 1st, exactly the Matrix petrol average.

Across our whole catalogue the average petrol remap adds 27 bhp and 51 Nm, so this engine's 14 bhp and 30 Nm sits below that benchmark.
